Study Skills 1: Revision
The exam period is often a stressful time. We all want our children to do well and to help them as much as possible. As we know, children behave in a variety of ways when it comes to revising.
- Some are happy-go-lucky who ‘just know’ that everything will be OK on the day.
- Some panic and ‘just know’ that they can’t possibly get everything learnt in time and that they won’t be able to answer the questions anyway.
- Most are hardworking who try really hard to work through their books and learn everything on their revision lists.
- Others are reluctant and you have to encourage, threaten or bribe them to get down to their studies.
- Yet others are disorganised, those who can’t find their notes or whose notes are in a terrible muddle and missing vital papers.
Whatever behaviour pattern your son or daughter follows, help is at hand. Last term all Fifth and Sixth Formers attended a Study Skills Seminar and received a manual. These booklets provide them with plenty of good advice as to how to organise themselves and how to tackle tasks in the way that works best for them. There is a section at the end on revision and exam technique, which you can access by clicking here. In this way I hope you will be able to help you son or daughter revise effectively and take control of their learning. Click here to download the 'General Principles of Revision' PDF
