Every day, the newspapers are full of Geography related items and we believe in keeping Geography alive and relevant. We have a news board that is updated weekly. Our aim is to equip every pupil with a thirst for the understanding of the world around them. We encourage pupils to think about their own personal experience and to use their knowledge of Geography to make sense of what is around them. Fieldwork plays an important part in developing this understanding.
Fieldwork
Fieldwork forms an important part of the learning process. As well as trying go get outside when it is relevant, each year group will tackle a major piece of fieldwork. All pupils use their IT skills to present their work.

Visits/Questions include:
Year 5: Fieldwork visit to Thatcham Nature Reserve
Weather Study: Are there any differences in rainfall totals and temperature at different sites at St Hugh’s?
Year 6: Does land use change as you move away from St Hugh’s?
Year 7/8: Common Entrance Fieldwork
Is there any difference between the width, depth and speed of the River Coln at different points along its course?
Common Entrance Fieldwork Study of the River Coln
Our Geography syllabuses are linked together, from Pre-Prep through to Common Entrance and Scholarship at the top of the school. Familiar threads bind the topics together and pupils build their knowledge and understanding of Geography as they move through the school.
