The aim of our P.E programme is to promote in our pupils a healthy and active lifestyle which they will want to maintain and develop throughout their lives. Creativity is also nurtured, along with good manners, a sense of fair play and a graciousness in both victory and defeat.
St. Hugh's has excellent sports facilities in attractive grounds. They include:
- SPORTS HALL - Incorporating marking for 4 badminton courts, 1 basketball court, 1 tennis court, 1 netball court, 2 volleyball courts, a set of gymnastic wall bars, trampoline and 2 cricket nets.

P.E lessons take place once a week. The lessons are fully co- educational and are varied to allow the children to experience different sports and activites. The programme is based on the schemes of work of the National Curriculum.
PRE-PREP (2x1hr Lessons)
The boys and girls are taught by their class teachers and a P.E specialist. The children take part in gymnastics, swimming, dance, athletics, and ball and racket skills lessons. In Year 2 all children have weekly mini tennis lessons taught by an LTA Licensed coach and are able to stay for after school sports clubs.

MIDDLE and UPPER SCHOOL
Years 3,4,5 and 6 have the following programme taught by a P.E specialist.
AUTUMN TERM - Life Saving skills and gymnastics
SPRING TERM - Dance + Rhythmic gymnastics
SUMMER TERM - Swimming
Years 7 and 8 follows a more varied programme taught in a double period each week again by P.E specialists.
AUTUMN TERM: Water polo, Badminton, Health Related Fitness
SPRING TERM: Basketball, Volleyball, Squash
SUMMER TERM: Athletics, Swimming, Tennis
OUTDOOR EDUCATION:
This programme is undertaken by all pupils from Years 5-8 for one day each term. St Hugh's has a professional outside organisation called 'Take Footsteps' who offer the children the unique opportunity of exploring a range of activities and problem solving games in small groups to develop their confidence and abilities in team building exercises. This involves taking part in outdoor activity challenges, including orienteering and exposure to unfamiliar and changing environments.
