The Annual St Hugh's Book Fair is to be held this year on the following dates:
16th, 17th and 18th November 2011
in the Pre-Prep Hall 3.00pm to 5.00pm
and Upper School Library 4.00pm to 6.00pm
May we kindly remind parents that the deadline for receiving shoe-boxes at St Hugh's is Wednesday,16th November (next Wednesday).
This year, St Hugh's is supporting the 'Ten for Ten' appeal which raises money for Help for Heroes and ABF The Soldiers' Charity. As you know, we recently held a cake sale and we would like to thank all the children in Middle and Upper School who supported this event by purchasing a red, white or blue cake which raised £160. We would also like to thank our catering department for making such scrumptious cakes!
We have also raised £435 through the fundraising element of Art Projects for School through the Christmas Card sales and we will be adding this to the pot for Ten for Ten.
It is our intention that the retiring collection at the Christmas Carol Service is also put towards this appeal. We will inform parents of the total amount raised for Ten for Ten after the Christmas break.
The week in Pre-Prep has been action-packed:
Year 2 enjoyed Pirates Day on Tuesday - excitement levels were high as the Jolly Roger was hoisted. The entire day was turned over to Pirate activities from cookery to PE, map making to inventing rules for correct pirate behaviour! Meanwhile 1JB made Christmas Puddings - the children loved sifting, mixing and stirring. At the invitation of Nikhel, Mrs Mandalia very kindly visited Reception to explain and share the celebrations of Diwali. Here are a few photographs to give you a flavour of these activities.

Book Fair will take place in Pre-Prep next week from 3-5pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - I do hope you will have time to pop in and browse the extensive range of children's publications.
A
Netball Tournament is to be held during the afternoon of Wednesday, 16th November so there can be no car parking next to Pre-Prep - we apologise for any inconvenience this will cause.
Pre-Prep are keen to support
Children in Need next Friday, 18th November. Please could your child wear something spotty such as socks, tights, a tie or scarf. If you don’t have anything then another idea might be to add a few spotty stickers to their school jumper. It would be smashing if your child could also bring a donation. Nursery children will be baking biscuits which will be sold to the Pre-Prep children during the day for just 20p. We aim to make Pudsey proud!
This week Nursery have been investigating the Hindu festival of Diwali. The children learned that Diwali is a festival of light so enjoyed designing clay diva lamps and making yummy Diwali sweets to share. We also watched a video clip of Indian dancing which we tried to copy!
Within our Literacy sessions, the children have spent time looking at the sound 'i' and in Numeracy, we have sung number songs and rhymes that count backwards. We even had time to visit the Sports Hall where we had great fun using all the wooden benches to build a circuit so we could improve our balancing skills.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
