Congratulations to Rebecca Bell for being awarded an academic scholarship to St Helen's & St Katharine's and to Amelia Green for being offered a place at Our Lady's Abingdon and an English Exhibition to OLA.
We are delighted to announce that Miss Jenny Please is engaged to be married. The wedding will take place in the summer holidays and Miss Please will move abroad with her husband. Jenny is a much valued member of the Pre-Prep team and a superb Reception teacher, whom we will miss very much.
We will be advertising this post shortly in the educational press and we will keep parents informed about progress in finding a suitable successor.
We are delighted to announce the safe arrival of Micah Jude Lings, born to Mrs Netty Lings and her husband Ben, on 27th December 2011, weighing in at 9lbs. Many congratulations also to Natalie Velaj in our Catering Department, and to her husband Ajet, for the safe arrival of Reece, who appeared six weeks early, on 16th January, weighing 4lbs 8oz.
We are very pleased to announce that from a very strong field of candidates, Mrs Polly Johnson has been appointed as part-time receptionist and administrative assistant at St Hugh's. Polly will already be known to many parents, as the mother of Tallulah and Monty, and we are delighted she is joining our administrative team. Polly will begin work at St Hugh's on Monday, 30th January.

Congratulations to Rebecca Bell who has been selected to train with the National U16 Dressage Squad; a huge honour achieved through hard work and diligence.
Congratulations also to Hannah McLintock, Annabel Simpson and Lucy Grace for being selected for the Oxford County Hockey Team.
Tarzan Trail - a jointly funded project by FOSH and the School
We
are delighted to announce that the new Tarzan Trail has been installed
on the field at the side of the woods by the all-weather pitch. FOSH
(including the proceeds
of the Autumn Fair) provided 50% of the cost of the Trail, with the
school providing the other half of the funding. The new trail was
requested by members of the School Council on behalf of pupils and will
no doubt be much enjoyed!
Please click here to see a photo of the new trail - already being enjoyed by the children!
Events - advance dates for your diary with more details to follow:
Friday, 9th March - Children's Second Hand Clothes Sale
Saturday, 17th March - Quiz Evening
Saturday, 19th May - Penny Fair
Life
never seems to slow down in Nursery and it hasn't this week either! We
began our week by researching the rhyme of Hickory Dickory
Dock. The children made junk model mice and in PE we performed
clockwork actions. We even counted to 12 in French during the French
conversation session! Phonics continued by looking at the sound 'u'. We
also re-capped sounds previously learnt and we were
amazed by how many we now know.
Within
Numeracy this week, the children had great fun measuring themselves on
Gerald the giraffe height chart to find out who is the tallest
and shortest. Mrs Farrant tried to win the tallest competition by
wearing her high heels - it still did not work!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Jessica Blythe
Next weeks events to note:
Monday: Library, Music Workshop 1
Tuesday: PE
Wednesday: Show and Tell - an expression
Thursday: French conversation
Friday: PE
Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Sulgrave Manor to learn more about the Tudors. They were bursting with news upon their return - dressing up in Tudor costume was obviously a real highlight. The children received praise from the Manor staff for their excellent behaviour and manners - they were a real credit to the both their parents and the school. Photos of the excursion will shortly be uploaded on the relevant Pre-Prep website page.
The focus on lunchtime behaviour and manners is already making a difference - the children are trying their very best to use their knife and fork properly. Thank you for your help at home in supporting this.
We currently have spaces available for guitar lessons with the school's new guitar teacher, Mr Manus Noble, (www.manusnoble.com).
Interested parties should contact Mrs Havelock or Mr Dunn. Thank you.

Netball Year 8's v Staff
Staff
won 16-14 - This was a very tough match (with the girls' fitness levels
pushing the staff to their limits!!). The girls were closing in on us
fast - luckily
we had our secret weapon, Mrs Snow, who saved the day.
U14 Boys Tennis 14/1/12 playing in the Oxfordshire Winter League
Well
done to George Strainge, Edward Flower, Daniel Ferris and Charlie Lay
who managed a Draw 3-3 against Witney/Lower Windrush. Edward won his
Singles 7/6(5),
6/2 and so did Daniel 3/6, 6/4, 13/11 - both epic battles. Charlie Lay
narrowly lost his singles but he played Doubles with Edward and they won
6/3, 6/2. Well done to all the team as they battled through wind,
fading light and freezing cold weather and especially
to Mrs Strainge who organised it all.
