Why is it so exciting to be able to say something in another language?

What is the joy in seeing a strange alphabet and knowing how it sounds?

The ability to speak another language is a communicator, a facilitator, an overture of friendship, a welcome, a key to an otherwise locked door.

Even just a few words can make the difference. And we start with just a few words in Reception!

By Year 1 and 2 the children are beginning to widen their vocabulary, build on their understanding and gain confidence in speaking another language.
