The School Day
In the morning teachers will take responsibility for the children in their class from 8.30 onwards. Please aim to bring your child to school for 8.30. Everyone should be settled and ready for registration and assembly at 8.40. (Before 8.30 parents may wait in the cloakroom area with their children.) The school day officially ends at 3.30 and children should be collected at this time. We do offer the facility of a 'late class' for those children who have been in school for a term or more and have siblings or share a journey with children from Middle or Upper School or for whom particular circumstances apply. Children should be picked up from 'late class' by 4.20 at the latest, though we would, of course, make appropriate arrangements for your child should an emergency arise.
Parking
Mornings
Pre-Prep parents may park on the tennis courts below Pre-Prep when bringing children to school in the mornings.
Afternoons
Autumn and Spring Terms:
Sometimes the courts are available for parking but often they are being used for football or netball in which case parents should use the main car park or the car park at the entrance to the sports pitches.
Summer Term:
The courts are used regularly, and, therefore, parents should use the main car park or the car park at the entrance to the sports pitches, unless it is particularly wet, when the courts would be free. For safety reasons please do not use the entrance by Middle School and, similarly, please do not park by the road side: the road is shared with our Carswell neighbours and, apart from significant safety issues, such parking leads to congestion.
Uniform
Please could ALL uniform be clearly marked. Blazers, coats and overalls need strong tapes, so that they can be hung neatly on pegs. All P.E. kit should be clearly marked on the front. Children need a navy kit bag for P.E. clothes and plimsolls and for outdoor clothes. Each Friday P.E. kit is sent home to be washed.
Medicines
If children need to be given medicine during the day, the matron on duty will administer it. Please take medicines to 'The Day Room' (in the main house) in the morning and collect them from matron at the end of the day. Occasionally we give a child Calpol if they are in distress from a temperature, headache or earache and we are unable to contact their parents. Please could you inform the school if, for any reason, your child is unable to take this type of medicine.
Absences
Please inform Pre-Prep on 01367 870710 if your child is going to be away from school. It is very helpful if you can do this before 8.40 a.m., alternatively ring the main school number: 870700.
Library
Each week children have the opportunity of choosing two books from our library to have at home. These books are changed on Fridays. As with any lending library system, books are lost occasionally and if this happens we would like to replace the lost book. If your child loses a book we shall ask you to sign a slip agreeing that the cost of the book is added to your end of term bill. I hope you will agree that this is the fairest way to maintain our excellent selection of books while still allowing Pre-Prep children to take books home.
Baker Books Club
Pre-Prep is a member of the Baker Books Club. Once a term a leaflet is sent home from which children can select books. Cheques should be made payable to Baker Books Limited. The Pre-Prep also benefits from this club as we receive 20% of the total in free books.
Parents' Evenings and Reports
In the Autumn term there is a Parents' Evening and a report is sent home at the end of term. In the Spring term Parents' Evening spans two days with the choice of either a late afternoon appointment or one in the evening. The time allowed for each appointment is therefore longer, usually being about 15 minutes. No report is sent home during this term but a full report rounds off the achievements of a year for each child at the end of the Summer term. Parents' Evenings are held in the classroom and give parents an opportunity to enjoy the work on display. Coffee is served in the Assembly Hall.
Parents' Visits
Form teachers are always happy and available to talk about a child's progress or discuss an anxiety. Generally speaking the end of the day is the best time as, first thing in the morning, teachers are busy settling children into their daily routine. I am very happy to see parents and will always arrange a convenient time. Please don't let a small anxiety become a large worry!
I hope this information will be helpful.
