School Hours and Routines
Pre-Prep - The School Day
In the morning teachers will take responsibility for the children in their class from 8.25am onwards. Please aim to bring your child to school for 8.25am Everyone should be settled and ready for registration and assembly at 8.40am (Before 8.25am parents may wait in the cloakroom area with their children.)
The school day officially ends at 3.30pm and children should be collected at this time. We do offer the facility of a 'late class' for those children who have been in school for a term or more and have siblings or share a journey with children from Middle or Upper School or for whom particular circumstances apply. Children should be picked up from 'late class' by 4.20pm at the latest, though we would, of course, make appropriate arrangements for your child should an emergency arise.

Middle School - The School Day
We like all pupils to be settled in their form rooms by 8.30am for registration each day. Staff will take responsibility for children in the Middle School from 8.25 a.m. each day, but should you need to deliver your children before then, they should wait in the Oak Room (off the front hall in the Manor House) and not outside the Middle School. Please make sure that staff in the Manor House know if this is happening.
School ends at 4.30pm and members of staff will be present in Middle School ready to deliver your child to you, unless he or she is taking part in an activity. A register is taken at 4.30pm and, although this may take a few minutes, we believe that it gives peace of mind to all concerned. Any pupils who have not been collected by 4.45pm, and not staying for an activity, will be taken to the Day Room to be supervised by the Matrons until their parents arrive. There are activities/clubs each day until 5.30pm should your child wish to take part. You will be asked to complete a form for the start of each term setting out your wishes.
Children may stay for clubs and/or tea and prep. They are always welcome to board and the house staff are happy to answer any queries you might have regarding this option.
There are usually two exeat weekends each term and children should be collected at 4.30pm on the Friday preceding an exeat as there are no clubs. This also applies to Fridays preceding half-terms and ends of term. All exeats are marked in the calendar for your information.
Upper School - The School Day
The school day begins with registration and a session with form teachers at 8.30am. This may be the only time that form teachers see the class together and it is therefore essential for children to be here in good time for registration so that there is no delay. Classrooms are open from 8.15am, although children may, if necessary, be dropped off in the Oak Room from 8.00am. However, if, in exceptional circumstances, you need to bring children in before this, please seek permission as supervision is not usually available before this time.
Morning break will be from 10.45am to 11.15am and morning lessons will end at 12.45pm. Years 5, 6 and 7 will then have lunch, followed by a break, and Year 8 will have a break, followed by lunch at about 1.20pm. On Wednesdays, there will be a mixture of sittings for Years 7 and 8, with preference for the earlier time given to those going away to matches.
Please note that lessons will end at 12.45pm on Saturdays for those who are here (Years 6, 7 and 8) and this is the collection time for children not needed for afternoon matches.
Upper School children do not 'sign out' with a member of staff at the end of the day. It is important, however, that we know who is collecting each child and at what time. Please fill in and return the form attached to the clubs list, which will be issued during the first week of the autumn term, and ensure that we are notified of any changes. For the first week of term, please let Mrs Nobes know if you wish your children to stay for tea and prep or are planning to collect them after 4.30pm for any other reason.
Day children may be collected at 4.30pm or at 5.30pm after clubs. They are also welcome to stay for tea and prep. Prep, for children in Year 5, takes place in the library and finishes at 7.00pm. Any children in Year 5 staying later than this would be looked after by the matrons until 7.30 p.m. in company with the younger boarders. Prep for older children takes place in the Tom Young building and finishes at 7.30pm or slightly later on certain days for Year 8.
Whatever time children are collected, or whichever car park you are using, their waiting point is the porch of the Manor House: after dark or in bad weather they will be expected to wait inside the building, in the hall or the Library. Please do not ask them to wait for you in other places.
