Topic Work in Pre-Prep

Topic work is truly cross-curricular and incorporates History and Geography while influencing subjects such as Art and DT. The children explore subjects as diverse as Toys, Native American Indians, Pirates and the Tudors. Lessons are vibrant and creative and encourage paired and group work as well as individual research.

The historical element of Topic work generally takes the form of discussion and practical activities using artifacts and photographs to encourage ideas. The aim is to engender the concepts of chronology, continuity, change and similarity and difference.

The geographical element allows the children to explore aspects of human and physical geography that affect their surroundings locally, nationally and worldwide. They investigate places and themes using a variety of reference materials and use the local environment as a focus for fieldwork enquiry.
