3rd February 2012
Senior School Congratulations
Congratulations to
Amelia Green, Aimee Leighfield, Hannah McLintock and Rose
Smith who have all passed 13+ Common Entrance to Headington. Special congratulations to Hannah McLintock
for winning the top
Academic Scholarship and to Aimee Leighfield for winning a Sports
Scholarship.
Many congratulations also to Katie Newland for winning an Art Scholarship to Tudor Hall.
And last, but by no means least, congratulations to Arran Ryder who has been awarded Drama and Music Exhibitions to Radley and to Jack Needham who has been awarded a Drama Exhibition
to Radley.
Snow!
If we have any significant snow falls over the next few weeks, school will always remain open. Please keep an eye on the website for regular updates during spells of poor weather and only travel to school if you feel it is safe to do so.
Pre-Prep Staff Appointments
We are delighted to announce that Mrs Judith Fisher has been appointed to the position of Year 1 form teacher. She and Mrs Fleming will jointly teach one of the Year 1 forms from September 2012 and Mrs Bremner will also be teaching a Year 1 form, in a full-time capacity. These appointments will begin in September following the retirement of Mrs Jan Bown at the end of the current academic year.
'Try Boarding' Tuesday, 7th February
There are currently a few spaces left for anyone else in Years 3, 4 or 5 who would like to do the 'Try Boarding' night on Tuesday next week. Please email Mrs Watson at boarding@st-hughs.co.uk as soon as possible.
If you have already signed up Mrs Watson will give your child a packing list on Monday to bring home with them that night. Thank you.
Staff Car Park
Parents
are respectfully reminded that, for obvious safety reasons, the staff
car park should not be used as a shortcut from the Sports Hall to Middle
School and Pre-Prep.
Whilst it is appreciated that it may be relatively safe for parents to
use this route, it sets a poor example for pupils for whom the area is
out of bounds. Your support in re-enforcing this would be much appreciated.
FOSH Quiz Night
FOSH Quiz Night - Saturday, 17th March 2012 in the Barn
Sharpen up those little grey cells and prepare for an evening of fun and ferocious competition! Tickets, to include supper, will be on sale soon and further information will be circulated next week. Tickets will be limited so please don't delay or be disappointed! Teams of 8 or individual tickets will be on sale and we will put teams together.
Middle School News - Mud, mud, glorious mud!
Please
may we request that all Middle School children bring a pair of over-trousers into school to wear at playtime? These should be named, navy
blue, waterproof
trousers and, in addition to their wellies, will allow the children far
more freedom at playtimes.
At present, without necessarily meaning to, the children are returning to lessons following their break times in a very messy state. Without some additional outdoor clothing to help prevent this, we will have to limit where the children can play, which would be a shame. We have asked the children to make sensible choices regarding the types of games they are playing and areas of the playground that they are using until they have some more suitable outdoor clothing. Many thanks.
Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day: Lift off!
On Safer Internet Day, Tuesday 7 February, CEOP will broadcast the 'The Parents' and Carers' Guide to the Internet'. It will be available from 7am on thinkuknow.co.uk/parents and youtube.com/ceop. We want to encourage as many parents as we can to watch it at home.
Then, live on the net on the 7th February, the CEOP team will be taking questions from Parents between 18:00 - 21:00
via Twitter and Facebook. Join the conversation at #parentsguide on
facebook.com/clickceop
News from Pre-Prep
The Pre-Prep have voted for their School Council representatives: Liesl, Isabelle, Joshua, Kimberley, Anneli and Sam were successful. (Please click on this link to see their photograph). The Council has already met and the children are full of ideas - they particularly enjoyed the orange juice and chocolate biscuits that were provided by Miss Please!
Parents of Year 1 and 2 children are reminded of the Sports Tournament
to be held in the main Sports Hall next Thursday 9th February at 2pm -
it should last about an hour. Children will be involved in a variety of
activities - the afternoon will offer parents the chance to see the
skills the boys and girls have learned. Refreshments will be served to
parents afterwards in the Pre-Prep Hall while the children get changed
back into school uniform.
Nursery News
Nursery
has been as busy as ever this week as we explored the riddle 'Hey
Diddle Diddle.' The children enjoyed adding together dishes and
spoons during Numeracy sessions and we had fun making a rhyme bag
during our Literacy time as well as learning the tricky sound 'f' during
phonics.
Within PE, we strolled up to the Sports Hall to play parachute games and use the large apparatus. We have also had time to get all the dressing up clothes out for lots of glitz and giggles!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

FOSH Second Hand Children's Clothes Sale
FOSH Second Hand Children's Clothes Sale - Friday, 9th March 3.00-5.00 pm
FOSH are holding a Second Hand Children's Clothes Sale in the Oak Room on Friday, 9th March. A fantastic and not to be missed opportunity to kit out your children with good quality 'good as new' clothes.
If you have good quality clothes (which must be clean) to donate, they may be left with Jo Graham-Campbell at Rushey Cottage (opposite the school) after drop off in the mornings from Monday, 5th March to Thursday, 8th March. Jo has kindly agreed that clothes can be stored and sorted in her home so please do not take any garments earlier than this date or bring them along on the day, as it will be too late to sort them then.
Further information is available from your Form Reps.
